ISO 14064- 2 Fundamentals

ISO 14064-2:2019 Greenhouse gases Part 2: Specification with guidance at the project level for quantification, monitoring and reporting of greenhouse gas emission reductions or removal enhancements

Course description

This hands-on course turns ISO 14064-2 into a practical workflow for greenhouse gas (GHG) projects. You’ll learn to plan projects that intentionally deliver emission reductions or removal enhancements, establish credible baselines, and identify the SSRs relevant to both the project and baseline scenarios. We build robust quantification methods, monitoring plans, and data-quality controls so your results are consistent, transparent, and decision-ready. You’ll practice documenting calculations, uncertainty and materiality considerations, and change management (including parameter updates and recalculations), then compile clear performance reports that withstand internal review and third-party verification. Because the ISO 14060 family is program-neutral, we also show how to align with external offset/crediting programs or registries when applicable, treating those requirements as additive to ISO guidance. Tools include baseline logic templates, SSR maps, factor registers, monitoring checklists, and verification-readiness reviews. Applicable to energy efficiency, methane capture, renewable energy, and nature-based projects; suitable for finance/ESG use or credit generation.

What you’ll learn

  • Plan a project and define a defensible baseline

  • Identify and select relevant SSRs for project/baseline

  • Quantify reductions/removals with documented methods

  • Design monitoring, QA/QC, and data-quality controls

  • Manage uncertainty, materiality, and recalculations

  • Prepare transparent, verifier-ready performance reports

  • Align ISO projects with offset/registry programs (when used)

  • Build evidence for management and stakeholders

Who should attend

  • Sustainability/ESG and environmental managers

  • Project developers in energy, waste, or land use

  • Engineers and analysts (energy, process, forestry/agri)

  • Finance, carbon market, and impact-investing teams

  • Quality/IMS managers and internal auditors

Recommended

  • Basic GHG or ISO 14001 awareness

  • Familiarity with project data and metering

  • Comfort with spreadsheets and simple statistics

  • Awareness of local carbon/offset rules
