Course description

This practitioner course demonstrates how to integrate ecodesign into an existing Environmental Management System (EMS) using ISO 14006:2020 as a practical guide. We connect product/service design with EMS planning and controls, using PDCA to translate life-cycle “hot spots” into clear design inputs, criteria, and targets. You’ll learn to scope life-cycle stages, screen impacts, and write ecodesign requirements that balance functionality, cost, safety, and environment. We cover design-for strategies (reduction, substitution, durability, repair, disassembly, recycling), packaging optimization, and supplier collaboration through procurement specifications. You’ll practice setting measurable KPIs, evaluating trade-offs with multi-criteria tools, verifying claims, and capturing evidence for audits and management review. The course includes templates for design briefs, gate reviews, and tracking improvements, plus Canadian/BC notes on product stewardship, environmental claims, and reporting. Suitable for standalone ecodesign initiatives or integration with ISO 14001 and broader IMS.
